The following is a poem I felt inspired to write several years ago, when my dad was still alive. I was thinking about him today and what a good dad he was. I hope this will honor all the dads on father’s day.
A Good Father
A good father is a gift from God. He was created in God’s image to show us our Heavenly Father’s heart… and this he endeavors to do right from the start.
Like a shepherd, he gently leads, protects and provides for those God has placed in his care…
Like our Savior, he lays down his life for his family, often carrying a load that is hard to bear…
He sacrifices his time and energy and often his own interests in order to provide for his family…
and this he does so willingly.
Like a Captain, he tries to steer the course of his children’s lives in the right direction…
Like a light house, he illuminates the way, leading them to a place of protection…
Children often cannot appreciate the sacrifices a father makes until they have been raised…
but a good father, like our Heavenly Father, deserves to be praised.
